Banter is a playful exploration of deaf jokes, stories and signs — from the silly and absurd to the thoughtful and serious. Through film, the project celebrates the powerful visual nature of sign language as a storytelling art form, while also showing how humour can open up deeper conversations about access, communication and inequality.

Huge thanks to our filmmakers Ruaridh Lever-Hogg and Klarissa Webster, our fifteen brilliant participants, and Bea Webster, who wrote and performed an original BSL poem especially for the project.

We hope you enjoy watching Banter as much as we enjoyed making it.
