About the film

Ayrshire Society for the Deaf is situated in the centre of Kilmarnock, a small Scottish town. It is home to a group of deaf people who meet to socialise in a familiar language (BSL). The future of the club is in doubt as the numbers have reduced over the years and the current members are mainly elderly.

This film is about them, their stories. This includes Margaret McLean, James and Helen Tait, George and Janet Calder. For these people the club is more than a building or simply a place to meet; it is history, culture and love.

Members outside the club, 2021.
